Nadia Bjorlin, Bryan Dattilo and James Reynolds on a recent trip to Detroit.
On their trip to Detroit years ago, cast and crew from NBC soap opera Days of our Lives visited Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Genesis House, a local women's shelter. Inspired by what they saw, they promised to be back someday. While promoting the show's 50th anniversary book last week, co-executive producer Greg Meng, and actors James Reynolds (Abe), Bryan Dattilo (Lucas), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Bill Hayes (Doug Hayes) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) returned to the Motor City.

"We connected here about five years ago, and we've been back a time or two since, and we were so inspired by the strength and the courage of these women, we left here so inspired," said Meng. "Anytime we're near Detroit, we want to come here."

The team also stopped by VA Hospital, a treat for Reynolds, a veteran of the Marine Corps who served in the Vietnam War.

"I love the VA, I love what they do," Reynolds said. "I love the embracing of the veterans. Days of our Lives has been incredibly supportive of that."

The Hayes visited the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum, a personal favorite.

Pierson Fodé and Francesca Eastwood
Francesca Eastwood enjoys horseback riding with newly single Bold and the Beautiful star Pierson Fodé
Eastwood was spotted horseback riding in Los Angeles on Friday with Fodé, who plays Thomas Forrester on B&B. Fodé recently split with longtime girlfriend Victoria Justice.

"They've been on a break for a couple of months. They are hoping to work things out and still care for each other a lot," a source told Just Jared. Fodé and Justice met in 2013 while shooting the film Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List.

Scott Turner Schofield seeing the impact of The Bold and the Beautiful's transgender storyline
"A transgender woman of color stopped me outside of a clinic," Schofield told Gay Star News, "she recognized me and said, 'I’ve been watching your story line. It’s keeping me coming back here every day to get my treatments. It means so much to me and thank you so much for being a part of that.'"

"This is a woman who is experiencing poverty and all this tough stuff, she gets to see herself reflected in the glamour of a soap opera and that that really helps her through her day. Hearing that means everything and it doesn’t matter that there are some people who don’t want to see that kind of storyline."

Karla Mosley and Piolo Pascual
Bold and the Beautiful star Karla Mosley presents at the 43rd International Emmy Awards
Award-winning Filipino actor Piolo Pascual presented the award for Best Telenovela on November 23 alongside Mosley, who plays Maya Avant Forrester on B&B. Brazilian novela Império took home the Emmy.

As the World Turns alum Van Hansis reflects on not coming out, previews upcoming roles
"When I first started with the show (ATWT) it was my first job," explained Hansis (Luke Snyder) in an interview with the Windy City Times. "I was scared and very young. I wasn't actively hiding it, but also I didn't want that to define me and I still don't because I think there are a lot more interesting aspects to my personality than the fact that I am gay. Hindsight is 20/20 and it wouldn't have been a big deal if I had come out when I was kid. What was scary is that I did an interview for Out Magazine before it aired on the show so I had no idea what was happening. I told them I was straight and knew it was a lie. I got trapped in that lie. I regret doing that, but it was the only time I was flat-out asked."

Hansis stars as Dusty in a new film, Kiss Me, Kill Me.

"He starts the film as a kept man," Hansis reveals. "He has a long-term relationship and he is in love. He is proposed to at a party and things go sour pretty quickly. That night his fiance is found murdered. Dusty blacked out and doesn't know what happened. He may even be the killer!"

Former Dynasty star Emma Samms loved her primetime soap role, but doesn't miss living in Los Angeles
"It was enormous fun, it was hard work in as much as I had to actually be at work at 5.30 in the morning, which is early, especially as I had a half-hour drive," Samms explained to the Gloucestershire Echo, "so I'd leave the house at 5am, that's pretty drastic!"

"And it means that of an evening you're not going to be, well you shouldn't be, out on the town. You should be learning your lines for the next day and then trying to get to bed early, so I certainly didn't have this wild party lifestyle; I certainly didn't have a Carrington lifestyle! But it was enormously good fun and of course, easy compared to most other jobs, it was fantastic, I was very lucky."

Samms is venturing into new areas these days.

"I'm moving into writing and directing. I've always written, the first screenplay that I wrote and was made was 17-18 years ago, so I've always done that, but it's only recently I've been directing. I've done a short film which I wrote and directed, we're just starting to enter it into festivals now so fingers crossed. I'm currently working on an adaptation of a play into a screenplay (which is proving very tricky) for a feature film, which I hope to direct."

Loving alum Michael Weatherly charged with a DUI
According to TMZ, the NCIS star was stopped for speeding earlier this month in Hollywood and officers determined his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.

EastEnders character to be killed off in 'tear-jerker' plot
[SPOILER ALERT!] Last month it was announced that Derek Martin would reprise his role as lovable cabbie Charlie Slater in EastEnders, but unfortunately he won't be sticking around for long. The legendary 82-year-old actor will make his Albert Square comeback next year, before swiftly being killed off for good.

According to the Mirror, Charlie will meet his untimely demise in a dramatic "tear-jerker" storyline in January that will no doubt rock the East End. Charlie's daughter Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) – who is also returning to Walford with husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) – is going to be left heartbroken after his shock passing.

Al Markim Dead at 88

Network television's first men in space, Frankie Thomas
(center), Jan Merlin and Al Markim, stars of Tom Corbett,
Space Cadet
.
Al Markim, an early cast member of the CBS daytime soap opera Love of Life, died on November 24. He was 88.

Markim was a pioneering TV actor, award-winning producer, visionary video executive. He is perhaps best known as Astro, in the classic 1950s TV serial Tom Corbett, Space Cadet.

Born in 1927 in Wilkes Barre, PA, Alfred Markim served in the Army witnessing the Nuremberg trials. He later pursued acting, including stage and screen, from Love of Life to "La Ronde" at The Circle In The Square Theatre Off-Broadway. He often co-hosted Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Telethons.

Tom Corbett, Space Cadet premiered on CBS in 1950, moved to ABC, then NBC, then DuMont, then back to NBC, with the final broadcast on June 25, 1955. (Frankie Thomas, Jr. played the lead role, and was also the star of one of the earliest TV soap operas, A Woman to Remember. He later starred in One Man's Family and First Love. Longtime Guiding Light star Edward Bryce played Captain Strong in Tom Corbett, Space Cadet.)

"In one of the later years of the Tom Corbett show, I was doing two other things: I was in a soap opera [Love of Life] a couple of times a week, and I was also doing a play at the Circle in the Square, "La Ronde," a hit play that ran for six months," Markim recalled to Starlog Magazine in 2005. "So I had a busy schedule — doing a soap opera, then I would have a script to memorize for Tom Corbett, and a heavy makeup job at night for the character that I was playing in "La Ronde." I would be at the makeup room and a friend at that time would come and coach me on the Tom Corbett lines. That fella was George Segal."

Al Markim
Markim produced award-nominated movies including The Fool Killer, and The Pawnbroker, and was executive producer of the classic Boys of Summer.

He was also a pioneer who brought movies into home theaters. In 1968, he co-founded Teletronics and thereafter entered a partnership with Sony, creating the world's first and largest videocassette duplicating center (later Video Corporation of America sold to Ronald Perlman's McAndrew's Forbes and merged into Technicolor). He was Chairman of the International Tape Association and was inducted into the Video Hall of Fame in 1996.

In retirement, he was President of his community's HOA; produced Second Half Strategies, a cable TV show; co-acted in local productions with his actress wife Sondra; and loved poker and the New York Yankees.

In addition to Sondra, his soulmate of 53 years, Markim leaves behind children Nancy, Dan, Gary, Nina and Carla, 11 adoring grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild to be.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Jewish Home Foundation (201-784-1414) or Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org).

On this date in...

1946:The Guiding Light aired for the final time on NBC Radio, sponsored by General Mills. Irna Phillips had been in a prolonged lawsuit with Emmons Carlson over rights to the show, leading NBC to cancel the series for the second time. Carlson, a former GL writer, claimed he had helped Phillips spawn the popular serial, while Phillips claimed he had only written a few early scripts. Carlson was ultimately awarded $250,000 by the courts. CBS Radio picked up The Guiding Light and began airing new episodes on June 2, 1947, sponsored by Procter & Gamble. The show remained on CBS Radio until 1956, and was broadcast on CBS-TV from 1952 to 2009.

1968: On Dark Shadows, just as Adam (Robert Rodan) was about to throw the switch that would have electrocuted Victoria Winters (Betsy Durkin), Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) shot him.

1969: Robert Milli debuted as Wayne Addison in Another World. In the episode, Wayne told Bernice (Janis Young) it would take time to swindle Steve. Ada (Constance Ford) and Ernie (Harry Bellaver) were married (offscreen) that day.

1994:Cynthia Watros debuted on Guiding Light as Annie Dutton.

Stone had been diagnosed as HIV-positive, and a later test revealed his CD4 count was below 200, meaning he had AIDS. Robin was also diagnosed as HIV-positive but began treatment and is still alive and healthy today. The story of Stone and Robin was groundbreaking, beautifully written and performed, and educational.

Matthew Ashford Returning: 'Days of our Lives' Actor Back as Jack

Matthew Ashford
Days of our Lives fan favorite Matthew Ashford is returning to the NBC soap opera for a five-episode arc in late spring, according to TVInsider.com. Since the return is scheduled to be so brief, it's not clear whether his dead character, Jack Deveraux, will turn out to be alive. It may be that Jack is only returning, quite literally, in spirit.

I'm okay with Jack coming back as some kind of ghost. Shakespeare used a ghost to bring back Hamlet's father, Dickens brought back Scrooge's dead business partner as a ghost. In the right hands, it can work well.

What if Jack Deveraux is really alive again? Hope there's a good explanation.

What do you think, would you want Jack to be alive after all, or have past soap opera "resurrections" soured you on the idea of a back-from-the-dead Jack Deveraux? Please leave me a comment in the comments section, below. Especially if there's some third possibility you think is viable.

As for actor Ashford, he also stars currently in The Bay, an indie series with ISA and Emmy wins. Matthew Ashford returns to the Days of our Lives set this week.

When will Jack return to Days? Since the production is 5-6 months ahead, look for the first episode of Days of our Lives with Matthew Ashford back as Jack Deveraux to air in May 2016. We'll post updates here on We Love Soaps as we confirm the airdate.

Here's the original story at TV Insider.

Read about when Ashford was axed, along with Sarah Brown and others, back in 2010:
AXED FROM DAYS: Matthew Ashford, Sarah Brown, Christie Clark & Patrick Muldoon

And of course you may want to revisit our quite juicy, exclusive-to-WLS, five-part, one-on-one, epic tell-all interview with Matthew Ashford in August 2010.

Greg Vaughan Leaving is Eric Brady Dead
Greg Vaughan
Days of our Lives star Greg Vaughan is leaving the NBC soap opera and the role of Eric Brady, according to Serial Scoop's Michael Goldberg.

Goldberg confirmed the revelation that Vaughan is off Days during an exclusive one-on-one interview session. A transcript of the first part of his interview was published yesterday, but did not even hint at the end of Vaughan's run as Eric.

Instead, the focus of the Sunday article was Vaughan's new movie, which was about to air.

Goldberg is about to publish his transcript of part 2 of the interview. The second installment zeroes in on his final months at Days.

Vaughan recently celebrated his third anniversary with Days of our Lives, but it looks like it will be his last. There's no word yet on when his last episode will air.

World AIDS Day 2015: Remembering Those We Lost

$

World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.

More than 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV infection, and almost 1 in 8 (12.8%) are unaware of their infection. Globally there are an estimated 34 million people who have the virus.

Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Today, many scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition. But despite this, people do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others from HIV, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with HIV. World AIDS Day is important as it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

'Days of our Lives' Stars Judi Evans and Wally Kurth Bumped to Recurring Status?

Judi Evans, Wally Kurth
Earlier this year, fans of Days of our Lives were excited to hear fan favorites Judi Evans (who plays Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis) and Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) were back on the contract with the NBC soap opera. According to a new story on about.com, both actors were informed yesterday they are being taken off contract once again.

In a possibly related Facebook post last night, Evans posted about her other job with Rose Hills Memorial Park. "So grateful to work at Rose Hills.....," she wrote.

"Being an actress can be a waiting game. For most, it's waiting tables. For all, it's waiting for the phone to ring," Evans explained in a 2008 interview, when it was revealed she was selling cemetery plots. "I have been lucky, better yet, blessed enough, to have worked on soap operas for over 20 years. With that being said, it has made me somewhat of a workaholic. I thrive when I'm busy, and make myself and my family crazy when I'm not busy. Waiting around for my manager or my agent to call is not my forte. When works slows, I want--no, I need--some kind of job to take on, and fast, before I make everybody crazy."

Kurth was recurring on both Days and ABC's General Hospital (as Ned Ashton) when he signed the contract with Days.

Eva La Trailera will premiere in 2016 on Telemundo.
Production has started on Telemundo's upcoming telenovela, Eva La Trailera, marking the return of acclaimed Mexican actress Edith González to the network. Set to premiere in the first quarter of 2016, the Miami-based production also stars Jorge Luis Pila and Arap Bethke. Eva La Trailera tells the story of a strong, determined and impetuous woman more than ready to take on any challenge. But life deals her a series of cruel betrayals, forcing her to make decisions that lead her down increasingly difficult paths.

González will play Eva Soler, a woman of imposing beauty who has worked hard to support her family as a truck driver, a trade she learned early on the road with her father, who made his living the same way. Through ambition and perseverance, she rises through the ranks to become the owner of the “Mon-sol” trucking empire. Despite her newfound wealth, Eva remains a humble person who understands that life is like an endless road that asks us to make constant decisions about the right direction to take. It is this understanding that will help her face life’s most difficult challenges.

Pila co-stars as Armando Montes, Eva's husband, whose friendly façade hides a selfish and vain man with a violent nature who ends up causing great harm to his family. He finds a rival for Eva’s love in Pablo Contreras (Bethke), a responsible young detective with strong moral values who brings a new sense of hope to Eva’s life.

Joining the stars of Eva La Trailera is a stellar supporting cast featuring Erika de la Rosa, Vanessa Bauche, Javier Díaz Dueñas, Henry Zakka, Roberto Mateos, Alfredo Huereca, Karen Sentíes, Mónica Sánchez Navarro, María Raquenel, Sofía Lama, Antonio Gaona, Minnie West, Martha Mijares, Paloma Márquez, Ana Osorio, Jonathan Freudman, Jorge Eduardo García, Nicolle Apollonio, Michelle Vargas, Adrián Carvajal, Tony Vela and Gustavo Pedraza.

Eva La Trailera is an original Telemundo Studios production written by Valentina Párraga (La Patrona and Los Miserables), directed by Leonardo Galavis (Donde Esta Elisa?) and Nicolás Di Blasi (Bajo El Mismo Cielo), and produced by Martha Godoy (La Patrona, El Señor de los Cielos), with Joshua Mintz supervising.

Victoria Rowell
Last month, we report a judge had dismissed a lawsuit filed by former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell against Sony Pictures Television and CBS. The judge did, however, allow a future filing under certain conditions, and now Rowell's attorney have filed an amended complaint in an effort to prove the actress was systematically discriminated against during her time on the the soap.

"On my behalf, my counsel filed an amended complaint to strengthen and clarify my claims of retaliation and discrimination against Sony, CBS and other defendant,” Rowell revealed in a statement. "We intend to vigorously prosecute these claims."

The actress left Y&R in 2007 after 17 years playing Drucilla Winters.

Below, watch Rowell's press conference from earlier this year when she announced the lawsuit.
