Michelle Hurd, who played Dana Kramer on NBC daytime soap opera Another World from 1991 to 1997, has joined the cast of FOX's Lethal Weapon as a recurring guest star.

Hurd plays "Gina Santos," who is brought in as Chief, above Avery (Kevin Rahm), to take some control of the division. She has a past with Murtaugh (Damon Wayans), and he is somewhat paralyzed by her arrival and the sexual tension between them, though it may be just in his head...

Hurd recently completed production on the comedy "You Can Choose Your Family," alongside Jim Gaffigan. On TV, she was seen on Blindspot, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Glades.

Other TV credits include Hawaii Five-0, Devious Maids, 90210, Witches of East End, How To Get Away With Murder, Bosch, Mysteries of Laura, Pretty Little Liars, Raising Hope, The Good Wife, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Gossip Girl, ER, Bones, According To Jim, Law & Order, Smith, Skin, Leap Years, Charmed, The O.C., Kevin Hill, The Practice and Another World.

Film credits include Be Afraid, We Don't Belong Here, Search Engines, Within The Dark, Girl Most Likely, Random Hearts, Personals, Double Parked, Wolf and King of New York.

Theater credits include "The Dog in the Manger" (Shakespeare Theatre Company), "AMI" (MCC), "Getting Away with Murder" (Broadway), "The Violet Hour" (Off-Broadway), "Looking for the Pony" (Off-Broadway) and "900 Oneonta" (Off-Broadway). Hurd is a proud alumnus of NYC's premiere artist community at Westbeth.

Jordi Vilasus on Leaving 'Days of our Lives': "It's Been a Hell of a Ride!"

Emmy winning actor Jordi Vilasuso will be leaving NBC soap opera Days of our Lives later this month. On Wednesday, he spoke out about his impending departure from the iconic series in a post on Instagram.

Yes, it's true- my Days are numbered. I’ve been wanting to speak on this for awhile but out of respect and love for the show I’ve stayed quiet.

@nbcdays has brought me so much joy! NBC, Sony, Ken Corday @gregmeng , Albert Alarr, and the entire crew who make this show possible have all been such pleasure to work for and with. Although I wish Dario would have gone in a different direction, being a part of the Hernandez family was one of the best parts of the gig thanks to @abonemartinez , @ggering, and @camilabanus. Mi familia always took me on a rollercoaster of belly hurting laughter and tears that I would look forward to whenever I got the opportunity to mix it up with them.

I’m grateful to the women that escaped Dario’s grasp as well.. ;) @ari8675, @ximenaduque, and @_marcimiller_ are such beautiful actors both inside and out and always inspired me to work at a higher level.

Lastly, the fans! You are the ones who keep this show going. I’ve gotten to know some of you personally and your passion for the stories and characters is infectious. Your opinions of Dario were hilarious and often mutually shared! Ha!

So here’s to @nbcdays ! May you have many more years to come! It's been a hell of a ride! #dool #nextchapter #lookingforward

O. J. Simpson: Soap Opera of the Century

$

Like millions of others around the world, I was glued to the TV on October 3, 1995, to watch the verdict announced in the O. J. Simpson double murder trial. I'd worked in soaps for so long by then (and had been a fan even longer), I almost didn't mind the preemptions because the true-life "Trial of The Century" eclipsed almost anything Bill Bell or James E. Reilly could put on the air. It even had a surprise ending many never suspected.

For me, however, it was more personal. My cousin, Keith, was the manager at the now infamous Mezzaluna Restaurant in Beverly Hills and dated murder victim Nicole Brown Simpson. A struggling actor at the time, I also worked there as the maitre D' (in another odd soap connection, the bartender was soon-to-be-discovered Laura Leighton: "Sydney" of Melrose Place fame) and spent lots of social time with Keith, Nicole and her kids. Of course, I'd seen O. J. at Mezzaluna on occasion and heard all the "first-hand" stories that have since become the stuff of legend. It all seems like a surreal, and very horrible, dream...but it was a part of my youth just as it is a part of our generation's pop culture, still being exploited in highly rated and well reviewed TV series and documentaries.

This week, O. J. Simpson is going to be back on the small screen for his latest parole hearing [for a different crime of which he was convicted], probably preempting the few remaining daytime soap operas...a genre his trial was credited with irreparably damaging; too many viewers got out of the habit and switched off.

It is ironic that almost a quarter century has elapsed (time flies, friends) and there is still an appetite for O. J. Simpson news. Other convicted criminals, even the celebrity sort, don't get that kind of coverage so maybe it's an opportunity for us to reflect as to WHY people are still so compelled. I have made a career in TV reporting since his first trial and the only answer I can come up with is "Because it's a soap opera."

While I will certainly be curious to know the outcome of his hearing, I'll read about it online and hear about it at work. And when I get home, I intend to catch up on my DVR recordings of Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless and General Hospital.

EDITOR'S NOTE: O.J. Simpson is set for a parole hearing Thursday, July 20 at 1 p.m. ET, on the remaining counts for which he was convicted in Las Vegas in 2008. According to a number of experts, Simpson has a strong chance of a favorable outcome before the Nevada Board of Parole, which in 2013 paroled him on five counts.

Oprah Winfrey and Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, the award-winning producers behind such hits as Being Mary Jane, The Game and Girlfriends, have partnered together to create "Love Is ___" a new original one-hour series for OWN.

The Akils will create and executive produce the series through their Akil Productions banner with Mara Brock Akil also serving as showrunner. "I've dreamed of working with the Akils," said Oprah Winfrey. "I've been a huge fan of their work since first viewing 'Girlfriends.' They know just how to hit the cultural nerve to make you think and laugh at the same time."

"To have a partner that brings the attention to detail and sheer excellence that Oprah has built an empire on is an absolute dream come true for Salim and me," said Mara Brock Akil.
