Joe Santos
Actor Joe Santos, best known for his role as police Sgt. Dennis Becker on the hit 1970s series The Rockford Files, died on Friday, March 18, according to his agent, Alicia Beekman. He was 84. Beekman did not provide any details about his death.

Born Joseph Minieri in Brooklyn, Santos was a football player at Fordham University and turned semi-pro before finding a new avenue in acting.

He worked blue-collar jobs until his friend Al Pacino helped him get a role in the 1971 movie Panic in Needle Park.

From 1974-1980 Santos played Becker, the friend of the easygoing ex-convict-turned-private investigator Jim Rockford (played by James Garner) in The Rockford Files. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 1979.

Santos' numerous other TV credits included Magnum, P.I., Hardcastle and McCormick, a.k.a. Pablo and Hill Street Blues.

In 1990 he appeared on NBC daytime soap opera Santa Barbara as Cy Agnew, a friend of Phyllis Blake (played by Stella Stevens).

He later had a recurring role as Angelo Garepe in The Sopranos until his character was killed and tossed into the trunk of a car.

Santos is survived by his wife, Mary, and two children.

Larry Drake Dead at 66

Larry Drake
Larry Drake, who earned two Emmy Awards for his portrayal of mentally-challenged character Benny Stulwicz in L.A. Law, died on Thursday, March 17. He was 66.

Drake's body was found in his Los Angeles-area home by a friend, said Charles Edward Pogue, himself a longtime friend and collaborator of Drake's.

The cause of death was not immediately known. The heavyset actor had suffered from health issues related to his weight, said Steven Siebert, Drake's manager for 30 years.

Drake was proud of a career that spanned TV, film and stage, including the 1990 movie Darkman, Siebert said. He earned Emmys in 1988 and 1989 for playing office worker Benny on L.A. Law.

In a 1989 interview with The Associated Press, Drake said he portrayed Benny not as a stereotype but as a man with a full range of emotions.

"And that seems to surprise people -- that (such) characters can feel as much as they feel, and note as much as they note," he said.

Pogue recalled his friend as "one of a kind" and far different from the roles in which he was often cast, including villains and, at least twice, characters named Bubba.

Drake's TV credits including the primetime dramas Firefly, Six Feet Under, Prey and 7th Heaven.

Although Drake sometimes chafed at being typecast, Pogue said, he appreciated the opportunities he had. Their projects included writing a mystery-comedy play, "Whodunnit, Darling?"

Drake, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, recently had focused on teaching acting, Siebert said.

Sofia Pernas
On Monday, Sofia Pernas was let go early from her contract with CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless due to budgetary reasons, according to Deadline. Y&R wants Pernas to appear as Marisa on a recurring basis but that will depend on if she's available. Twenty-four hours after Y&R took her off contract, Pernas had auditioned, tested, and booked a role in the CW’s genre-themed drama pilot Transylvania.

Pernas has been cast as a regular opposite Laura Brent and Luke Allen-Gale.

Written by Hugh Sterbakov and directed by Jason Ensler, Transylvania is set in 1880 and centers on Victoria (Brent), a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective (Allen-Gale), and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history. Pernas will play Coriander, an exotic gypsy, the leader of the matriarchal Szgany clan that runs the fleshpots of the Old City — the haunted spot where Vlad the Impaler once killed thousands of their tribe.

Pernas joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in June 2015 as the mysterious Marisa Sierras.

OWN Unveils First Look at New Drama Series 'Greenleaf'

Greenleaf premieres June 21 on OWN.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has unveiled a first look at its new original drama series Greenleaf from Lionsgate TV and Emmy-nominated writer/producer Craig Wright. Featuring Oprah Winfrey's first recurring scripted television role in two decades, the family drama set against the backdrop of a sprawling Memphis megachurch will launch with a two-night premiere on Tuesday, June 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and Wednesday, June 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. The series will regularly air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT for the remainder of its 13-episode first season.

Greenleaf centers on the journey of estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher Grace Greenleaf (Merle Dandridge) who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister, Faith. As she reenters the world of Calvary Fellowship World Ministries, the Memphis megachurch run by her powerful parents Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David) and Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield), it becomes evident that things are not as virtuous as they seem and that the family's outward display of faith hides sin and misdeeds.

In the season premiere, directed by executive producer Clement Virgo, Grace and her teenage daughter Sophia (Desiree Ross) are warmly welcomed home by Grace's father, Bishop Greenleaf. Sparked by Grace's return to Memphis, tensions quickly rise. At a family dinner in the Greenleaf mansion, Grace's mother is cold and hostile. Her sister-in-law Kerissa (Kim Hawthorne) questions her about her faith and sister Charity (Deborah Joy Winans) erupts with jealousy at the suggestion that Grace might start preaching at Calvary.

Later, Grace's Aunt Mavis (Oprah Winfrey) discusses with her the circumstances of Faith's death and reveals some shocking information about Grace's Uncle "Mac" (Gregory Alan Williams). Mavis is still estranged from the Greenleaf family and it becomes evident that she intends to use Grace to sow the seeds of its destruction.

As the World Turns and All My Children alum Lamman Rucker (pictured) plays Jacob Greenleaf.
